The Motion Studies conducted by Muybridge on the galloping horse was
one of the first case studies to demonsrate movement on a digital medium.
Optical toys were also apart of the first animation as it showed how we percieve
movement in still images when they are moved themselves. These were the beginning
of animation that has such an impact on the internet today.

These were GIFS that were'nt as easily created but began the 'meme' culture we know today

Fast forward to today and GIFS can be made very easily in very little time. We have access to
almost all forms of video and animation through streaming that we can cut and reupload as our own GIF.
These are still used in pop culutre and the 'meme' culture that began in the early 2000's but are now used in
common chat spaces to convey emotion.
